Australia’s love affair with all things big has been one of the great things about travelling around the country. We’ve got The Big Ram in South Australia, a Big Koala in Victoria and even a Big Bogan in New South Wales. If you can think of it, chances are there’s a Big version of it somewhere along our highways.
Keeping up the fruit theme after The Big Banana, The Big Pineapple and not one, not two, but nine Big Apples across Australia is Bowen’s own The Big Mango, and that’s what is highlighted in this month’s feature photo.
One of our hard-working on-site refuelling drivers was so taken by this oversized delight on his regular runs in the area that he just had to stop and take a photograph for posterity. After all, it looks almost good enough to eat.
Measuring a mouth-watering 10 metres high, The Big Mango is designed after the local Bowen Mangos grown nearby, with its rich colours match the real thing to a T. Located at the Bowen Visitor Information Centre just south of Bowen on the A1 Bruce Highway, it makes for an ideal stopping point along a pleasant road trip to the Whitsundays.
The grounds around The Big Mango are always worth your time. The area is festooned with sculptures created by local artists, and there’s even a dog park for your canine friends to enjoy while you partake in a mango sorbet from the Information Centre.
The team at Bulk Fuel Australia regularly service the area and keep local businesses operating all year round.
