Australia’s fuel refineries play a critical role in the fuel supply chain, contributing around $1 billion per year to the economy, but did you know that there are only four left in the country?
Over the last 15 years, over half of Australia’s fuel refineries have shut down or been repurposed as fuel import terminals. The latest to be demolished is the Bulwer Island Refinery, which was opened in 1966 and decommissioned in 2015.
Bulk Fuel Australia is now playing a crucial role in its demolition for land reclamation by refueling the entire machinery fleet responsible for safely deconstructing the infrastructure.
The project averages 2,000 litres of diesel fuel per day and is using over 100 litres of AdBlue, which we can supply in bulk, and is needed for operating the project’s more modern machinery, including 35T excavators, telehandlers, mobile cranes, dump and elevated work platform trucks.
Safety while operating on a hazardous site is a huge consideration for this project. Delivering bulk fuel means complying with strict safety protocols and regulations, including environmental protection guidelines. For us, this means complying with EPA guidelines to deliver bulk fuel and ensuring every measure is to the AS1940 Australian Standards.
