Northern Pipeline Interconnector Project Case Study

- 21 April 2016
As the fuel supplier for the Northern Pipeline Interconnector (NPI) project on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Bulk Fuel Australia delivered just under 1,000,000 litres of fuel to all mobile and fixed plant on site.
Stage 2 of the NPI project is a critical piece of drought contingency infrastructure with the capacity to transport large volumes of potable water – up to 65 megalitres (ML) per day – between the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. Stage 1 of the project was completed in December 2008 and runs from the Morayfield Reservoir in Brisbane’s north to the Landers Shute Water Treatment Plant and a connection continues to Eudlo where the Stage 1 pipeline connects to Stage 2.
These large infrastructure projects are managed on tight timeframes. Idle or inefficient equipment and refuelling issues can contribute to delays that can carry serious financial penalties for our clients. Reliability of fuel supply was critical for the project team to be able to meet the Stage 2 project milestones.
Despite the extended periods of wet weather during the project’s construction phase, which caused slippery, difficult driving conditions, our fleet of DAF Tankers rose to the challenge, with their purpose-built, 30-metre hi-flow hose reel providing fast, safe access to the wide range of earthmoving and power generation equipment, as well as the vehicles on site. Our vehicles’ on-board computer systems proved invaluable. Our team of drivers were able to remotely capture data such as plant numbers, engine hours, odometer, location, etc., which was automatically emailed to the project team who used this data to analyse the efficiency of their fleet and quickly attend to non-scheduled maintenance or servicing issues.
With each of our vehicles stocked with quality lubricants, plant operators were able to perform minor maintenance tasks during scheduled refueling breaks, which kept equipment downtime to an absolute minimum.
The success of the Stage 2 NPI project is a credit to our professional, dedicated team. The project is further evidence of our commitment to do what it takes to meet the bulk fuel and on-site refuelling needs of our clients.
