The Commonwealth Games 2018 was the biggest sporting spectacular the Gold Coast has ever seen. It was the first regional city to ever host a Commonwealth Games in its 88-year history. Their vision, along with presenting a stellar event, was to show leadership in sustainability by delivering GC2018 to international standards of best practice, leaving positive economic, environmental, social and community legacies.
The strategic team behind GC2018 wanted to partner with local businesses to showcase industry strength. We were honoured they chose Bulk Fuel Australia to supply fuel for the entire event.
Chris Darwin, Regional Sales Manager for Bulk Fuel Australia says the Commonwealth Games 2018 was a massive win for the Brisbane-based business, saying “The Commonwealth Games fuel supplied by Bulk Fuel Australia was a great opportunity to demonstrate our capability to plan, manage and deliver fuel across all of the venues, ensuring power and logistics support was maintained for each event throughout the Games on the Gold Coast.”
We were contracted to provide diesel fuel for temporary power generators serving the Games. One of GOLDOC’s objectives was to reduce carbon emissions attributable to the GC 2018. With this in mind, Bulk Fuel Australia had the products and capability in mind to ensure those goals were met. Using Final Filtered Diesel®, we were able to deliver increased power, improved reliability and reduced emissions. The Final Filtered Diesel® used at The Commonwealth Games is at a cleanliness level superior to the current Fuel Industry standards.
Our innovative ordering and barcode tracking system was also implemented, alongside a large range of tankers and personnel. Over the entire event, we distributed 340,000 litres across the grounds, with daily deliveries to over 20 venues, all overlapping and highly-constrained refuelling windows.
Chris Darwin, Regional Sales Manager (and the entire Bulk Fuel Australia team) believe the fuelling of the event was a massive success, saying “All areas and people within Bulk Fuel Australia were totally committed to delivering clean Final Filtered Diesel to the GC2018 sites and venues. Together with Aggreko we provided service with excellence to all of the stakeholders involved with the GC2018 event.”
It seems we weren’t the only ones impressed with the effort of our team, with GOLDOC recently sending us a glowing review of our service.
“BFA’s experience and advice were invaluable during the planning and design stages. Their knowledge and experience of deliveries to temporary and complex locations, projects with stringent security, and time-sensitive environments enabled them to design an effective ordering and delivery system, interfacing directly with GOLDOC’s temporary power contractor, while meeting the demands and tracking all information that GOLDOC needed.
All contract deadlines and milestones were met, while changing requirements were confidently handled, and the highest levels of compliance achieved.
During highly-pressurised build and delivery periods, Bulk Fuel Australia overcame challenges and proved to be a true partner to GOLDOC. As a company and through their operational staff at all levels, Bulk Fuel Australia went above and beyond to assist GOLDOC and ensure the success of the event. Fuel was always there when we needed it.
GOLDOC congratulates Bulk Fuel Australia on a job well done.”
