10 weird alternative fuel ideas

Did you know that fossil fuels such as oil and gas are just a few of the many available fuel options? These 10 rather peculiar energy sources will open your mind to alternative energy resources.
1. Faeces and urine
Instead of disposing of our human waste immediately, why not recycle it? Faeces contain methane, a colourless, odourless gas that can be used as a credible power generation source.
2. Dead cats
In 2005, a German newspaper featured a fuel solution that utilises rubbish, including dead cats. In case you were wondering, you would need approximately 20 deceased cats to fill one fuel tank.
3. Beer
It's the process of fermenting sugars that creates the humble beer. But did you know that sugar fermentation can also create the powerful energy gas ethanol?
4. Dirty nappies
It's time to put those nappies to good use. Pyrolysis is the act of breaking down the molecules in garbage (such as dirty nappies) to create gas and oil with very little pollution.
5. Chocolate
Not only does chocolate taste good, it can also be turned into fuel! In fact, anything with a fat in it can be turned into diesel fuel. The University of Warwick tested this out by fuelling a Formula 3 race car by using the waste products created from the chocolate making process.
6. Body heat
London Mayor Boris Johnson recently announced plans to utilise body heat from UK subways to heat British houses.
7. Jellyfish
The green fluorescent cells that jellyfish use to glow in the dark can be used to produce electrons. A team at the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, recently conducted an experiment where they utilised jellyfish cells to create electrons which were used in a circuit to produce electricity.
8. Exploding lakes
These rare lakes contain huge reservoirs of methane and carbon dioxide that can be used as a means of power. In Rwanda, the government has built a power plant that harnesses the gases from exploding Lake Kivu to power three large generators.
9. Vibrations
Who knew that partying could help the environment? Club Watt in Rotterdam, Netherlands, powers its light show by using “piezoelectric” materials from the floor vibrations created by people dancing.
10. Algae
Researchers at the US Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington, have discovered a "cooking" process that combines a small mixture of algae and water to create crude oil in less than an hour.
